    Registrar's Report

For the week of January 05, 2008.

    Match Status Updated January 12 & 23, 2008.

    Happy 2008

May each of you have a safe, healthy, happy and productive new year. And may you be reunited with the family you seek.

    Patterns

Often we see patterns in the registrations we receive and the matches that occur. Sometimes it is many registrations arriving together, where the adoptees were born in the same town or hospital. Once we had three matches in the same week all with the same last name. Another time we reunited two Mary's with two April's in the same week. This week there were registrations involving twins in five different states.

Twins ~ Over the last month or so, we have seen twins surface in a variety of ways. First there was the twins who had both registered with only one knowing they might be a twin. Then the birthmother who sent in two registrations, not knowing if her twins were raised together or apart -- one of the twins had registered with ISRR in 2003. Another possible set of twins, where neither had any idea they might have a twin or even a sibling -- are both now trying to get non-identifying information and confirmation from the agency. And finally, a woman who has identified that she was not a single birth after all, and who is in touch with others delivered by the same doctor where in each case one twin seems to have  'disappeared'. Sad and almost incomprehensible.

*Since first posting this report, many news articles have been published on a set of twins who were separated at birth and adopted by different sets of parents who later married each other and were recently granted an annulment after finding out they were brother and sister. Click here if you would like to read articles from the Associated Press or Agence France Presse.

Always interesting were the presentations by Tom Bouchard who originally headed the Study for Twins Reared Apart launched in 1979 at the University of Minnesota. Click here to Google him if you'd like to learn more. Or to see a 1998 Washington Post article on "The Mysteries of Twins", click here.

Hope ~ Only a few weeks ago we received a registration from an adoptee born in 1928. Her birthmother had registered with us in 1986. There is always hope and usually ways to acquire more data on your family. We want to encourage you to click on "Get More Info" for guidelines to assist you in acquiring additional information. So often, one more piece can complete the puzzle or help us determine relationship. Gather as much information as you can and please remember to send us updates.

Missing Registrants

Since Spring of 2007 we revisited 54 older and unresolved matches, where one or more of the registrants did not keep their contact information current with ISRR. Most of those have been concluded. However, the following need more information from one or both of the registrants - to determine if it is indeed a match. Often only a current address or phone number is required to put the parties together.

AZ 10-15-1965 - Closed

FL 02-17-1964

NY 03-17-1970- Closed

NY 12-19-1974- Closed

WA 08-06-1961

WA 08-21-1961

WA 12-19-1961- Closed

If you think your address or phone number may be out-of-date with ISRR, please click on UPDATE , download the form, fill it out, sign it and mail to ISRR. Until the Imaging Project is finished, our staff will not be able to take updates or changes over the phone, by fax or email. We are sorry for this inconvenience, however, ask you to understand that we are working just as fast and hard as possible ... there is only so much of us to go around!

Imaging Project. This project continues. California has been completed. There is now only one state now left to prep, scan and index. We left New York until last because there were going to be differences in the preparation process and some programming changes were needed to allow for the boroughs. It won't be long before the entire Registry will be in the new digitized system. For more information click here to see archives of the Registrar's Report. Imaging

Please always remember that you are not alone. We receive many thousands of new registrations each year and do matches nearly every single day. There are search and support resources all over the world, and hundreds of thousands who have gone before you in a quest for family.

We work hard to keep this registry free to registrants and are grateful for your generous contributions which allows this service to continue uninterrupted since 1975.
